A Simple Geometrical Model for Solid Frictiont
نویسنده
چکیده
We present a simple model for the friction of two solid bodies moving against each other. In a self consistent way we can obtain the dependence of the macro-scopic friction force as a function of the driving velocity, the normal force and the ruggedness of the surfaces in contact. Our results are discussed in the context of friction laws used in earthquake models.

Geometrical Optimization of the Cast Iron Bullion Moulds Based on Fracture Mechanics
In this paper, the causes of the crack initiation in cast iron bullion moulds in Meybod Steel Corporation are investigated and then some new geometrical models are presented to replace the current moulds. Finally, among the new presented models and according to the life assessment, the best model is selected and suggested as the replaced one. For this purpose, the three recommended moulds were ...
متن کاملDetermination of Volumetric Mass Transfer Coefficient in Gas-Solid-Liquid Stirred Vessels Handling High Solids Concentrations: Experiment and Modeling
Rigorous analysis of the determinants of volumetric mass transfer coefficient (kLa) and its accurate forecasting are of vital importance for effectively designing and operating stirred reactors. Majority of the available literature is limited to systems with low solids concentration, while there has always been a need to investigate the gas-liquid hydrodynamics in tanks handling ...

متن کاملOne Dimensional Internal Ballistics Simulation of Solid Rocket Motor
An internal ballistics model has been developed for performance prediction of a solid propellant rocket motor. In this model a 1-D unsteady Euler equation with source terms is considered. The flow is assumed as a non-reacting mixture of perfect gases with space and time varying thermo physical properties. The governing equations in the combustion chamber are solved numerically by using the Steg...
متن کاملPrototyping Dissection Puzzles with Layered Manufacturing
Dissections of simple geometrical forms can be used to train students’ spatial understanding and to teach geometrical modeling as well as some of the practical aspects of rapid prototyping by layered manufacturing. Two types of dissection puzzles have been used as class exercises in a graduate course on computer-aided solid modeling: Helicoidal sectioning of simple geometrical shapes and a burr...
